Oweninny Wind Farm: A Case Study in Project Delivery
2nd September 2020
Webinar
Most of you will be familiar with Oweninny wind farm, a joint venture project between Bord na Móna and ESB, with Phase 1 beginning commercial operation last year. Comprising 29 turbines and 90 MW, this exciting project was built on a site adjacent to Bellacorrick wind farm, Ireland’s oldest wind farm.
What some of you may be less aware of, is the enormous amount of work, organisation, collaboration, and planning that goes into delivering a project of this scale, and the challenges that must be overcome over the course of the project.
This webinar takes a deep dive into the work involved in delivering Oweninny wind farm, from the civil and electrical works, to turbine installation, with expert presentations from those with first hand experience from working on the project.
Some of the many topics broached on this webinar include:
• Building high performing teams to deliver Oweninny
• Grid connection delivery in challenging environments
• Challenges to construction due to environmental constraints, stakeholder management, site specific considerations and the use of larger turbines
• Overcoming difficult transport routes
• Lessons learned over the course of the project
Speakers: Jim Mulcair, Executive Chairman, Roadbridge Ltd.
Declan Wynne, Executive Director, Gaeltec Utilities
Michael Cunningham, Senior Project Manager, Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy
Moderated by: Peter O'Hagan, Project Director, ESB and Nick Norris, Projects Manager at Bord na Móna
