The potential for wind energy in Ireland is enormous, and the sector is growing across the island.

The figures are updated with the best information available at the time of publication. The installed capacities for wind farms, typically smaller ones, that connect to the distribution network are not available and instead we use the figure for Maximum Export Capacity (MEC). This is the maximum amount that the specific wind farm can generate under the connection agreement. Not all wind farms may be generating at the maximum level. 3.There are just over 300 wind farms in the Republic of Ireland. It should be noted that WEI, like the transmission system operator EirGrid, bases these figures on the number of individual wind farm connections. Some larger wind farms may have multiple connections.
