IWEA Spring Conference 2020 postponed
12 Mar 2020
The Irish Wind Energy Association has postponed its 2020 Spring Conference which was due to take place in Dublin on 19 and 20 March.
Over the last few days concerns have escalated around the public health impact of the COVID-19 virus. New cases are identified every day and, tragically, yesterday the first fatality from the virus in Ireland was reported.
Speaking on behalf of the IWEA Council and Board the organisation's chairperson, Peter Lynch, said: "Postponing the conference was not a decision that was taken lightly as it is one of the most important events we organise every year.
"This morning, the IWEA Council unanimously agreed to support the IWEA executive team’s recommendation that we must do everything we can to prevent the spread of the virus and that postponing the Spring conference is the correct course of action given the unprecedented circumstances.
"It is our plan to reschedule the Spring Conference for later in the year. IWEA staff are working closely with the hotel and other suppliers to rearrange a new date for the event which will most likely be in the Autumn and may take the form of a bigger Autumn event in a Dublin venue.
"All delegates and exhibitors who have already paid for their tickets or exhibition space can choose to transfer that payment to the rescheduled conference. Alternatively, you can request a full refund by emailing This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or calling the IWEA office on 045 899 341.
"In closing, I would like to acknowledge the effort put in over the last week by IWEA staff, particularly our conference and events team, to enable the Council to make a fully informed decision. Thank you for your continued support of the organisation."
