As Ireland ramps up its ambitions to become a global leader in offshore renewable energy, the demand for a highly skilled workforce is growing rapidly. At Skillnet Offshore Wind Academy (SOWA), we’re on a mission to equip professionals with the expertise needed to thrive in this dynamic, future-focused industry.

Who We Are

Skillnet Offshore Wind Academy (SOWA) is Ireland’s dedicated national training initiative for offshore wind. Co-funded by Skillnet Ireland and backed by industry partners, we deliver high-impact, industry-informed training, designed to upskill workers across the offshore wind value chain – focused on supporting specific career pathways, including Resource Analysts, Geophysicists, Able Seafarers, Ornithologists, Offshore HV Technicians and Engineers for 2025.

Our Purpose

Ireland has committed to generating at least 37GW of offshore wind energy by 2050, a target that demands not only innovation and investment, but also a workforce with the right skills and certifications to support that transition. Many professionals currently working in onshore wind, construction, oil and gas, marine, and related sectors are ideally positioned to transition into offshore wind—with the right training and support.

That’s where the Skillnet Offshore Wind Academy (SOWA) comes in.

SOWA bridges the skills gap by providing accessible, accredited training tailored to industry needs, helping mid-career professionals transition to offshore wind. These compact and flexible micro-credential training courses are tailored to industry needs, providing professionals in complementary fields with the knowledge required to work in offshore wind energy. By completing micro-credentials, participants can accumulate credits towards valuable qualifications.
